We’ve been told by CareFirst that there is a system-wide claims processing issue in Maryland going back to September 1, 2025. CareFirst advised providers not to resubmit denied claims on our end. They stated CareFirst will automatically resubmit affected claims, but because the issue is ongoing, additional denials may continue. Each impacted claim may take up to 90 days to correct, and there is currently no known ETA for full resolution.
If you’re a provider impacted by this issue, you may want to file a complaint with the Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) and include claim numbers (and any additional details) if you and your client agree.

If you’re impacted by the ongoing CareFirst/BCBS claim denials and delays, you can also contact your Maryland state delegate and/or senator and ask them to request oversight from the Maryland Insurance Administration and CareFirst. When multiple providers report the same problem, it increases the chance of a formal inquiry, clearer written guidance, and faster remediation. If you choose to reach out, keep it factual: note the denial pattern, the payment delays, the “do not resubmit” guidance where applicable, and how income disruption threatens small practices and access to care.
