Abby Jacobsen, LMSW

Hi I am Abby–

ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS

What’s therapy with me like? I understand that everyone’s journey is unique, which is why I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. My goal is to create a therapeutic space where your nervous system can finally take a breath, a place where you feel genuinely seen, understood, and supported as your authentic self.

I blend science, soul, and lived experience.  I am endlessly curious, and not afraid to walk into the hard stuff with you.  I ask the kind of questions that help you ask your own.  My expertise spans across Brainspotting, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychoanalytic Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, giving me a diverse toolkit to address your specific needs. As a therapist, I will collaborate with you to create targeted interventions to help you navigate your personal challenges with confidence and clarity.

Who do I work with? I primarily work with individuals age 12 and older, helping them navigate their unique challenges. Through understanding behaviors, emotions, and experiences, I collaborate with my clients to develop long-term skills that will positively impact their lives. Many of my clients are navigating complex trauma, neurodivergence, mood disorders, life transitions, or people who have learned to push through – but are ready for something deeper.

My impacting identities are… I am a cisgender, neurodivergent female, single mom of four children under the age of 13, three of whom have special needs, and survivor of complex trauma.  My spirituality isn’t tied to any one path, but resonate with energy, intuition and the interconnectedness of all things.  How these identities show up are: with humility, curiosity, and a deep reverence for the wisdom people carry in their bodies and stories.

I feel allied/aware/part of/informed/knowledgeable about… I am allied with LGBTQ+ communities, trauma survivors, and parents of neurodivergent children. I have knowledge about complex family dynamics, intimate partner violence, and mental health management.  I continually learn from the people I work with and from my own lived experience.

I am best fit for People who have felt judged, misunderstood, or unseen in past therapy—or who are new to therapy and unsure where to begin. I offer a calm, grounded space where you can show up exactly as you are. If you're looking for empathy, curiosity, and support without pressure or pretense, we might be a good fit.

I am not a good fit for Clients looking for quick fixes, rigid structure, or surface-level solutions. If you’re seeking highly directive advice or a therapist who will tell you what to do, my approach may not be the best match. I value collaboration, self-discovery, and pacing that honors your nervous system.

What makes me unique?  Curiosity is my superpower; it drives me to ask questions, explore all possibilities, and continuously learn and grow. As a therapist my work is not stagnant or linear but continually changing and adapting as needed.

Did You know... I don’t expect you to have it all figured out before showing up.  I welcome the mess, the contradictions, the confusion.  That’s where the work lives.

You also don’t have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.  In fact, some of the most transformative moments happen when we slow down, get curious, and give ourselves permission to feel safe enough to change.

Any Pets? I am an animal lover with experience in equine-assisted therapy and am in the process of certifying my Golden Retriever as a therapeutic emotional support animal. My experience with animals over the years has deepened my belief in their remarkable healing powers.

My favorite hobbies… I enjoy the outdoors, engaging in "yard therapy”, pruning trees, pulling weeds, and mowing the lawn. The sunshine and fresh air and anything that lets me feel connected to the earth are particularly healing for me. I also enjoy creativity, crafts, music, and problem-solving.
